Avis Island

Avis Island Trip

Situated approximately a twenty-minute boat journey from the Mayabunder jetty, lies the secluded and pristine Avis Island. Adorned with a lush coconut plantation, this diminutive gem is encircled by tranquil azure waters and boasts a quaint sandy shoreline. Despite its allure, Avis Island remains uninhabited and off-limits to tourists without prior authorization from the forest department. Nonetheless, for those granted access, it offers an idyllic setting to while away a sun-drenched morning or afternoon.

With its untouched natural beauty, Avis Island serves as a captivating retreat for shutterbugs and nature enthusiasts alike. However, given its deserted nature, visitors are advised to bring along ample drinking water, snacks, and mosquito repellent to ensure a comfortable visit.

Accessing Avis Island requires first reaching Mayabunder Island, from where a Dunghi boat can ferry you to its shores in approximately twenty minutes. To reach Mayabunder, travelers can avail of buses departing from Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. These buses ply daily along the Andaman Trunk Road, passing through Rangat and Baratang. Departures from Port Blair typically commence around 4 am and continue until 11 am, offering a lengthy but rewarding journey through dense jungle terrain and ferry connections between the islands.

While traversing the Andaman Trunk Road, travelers may catch glimpses of the indigenous Jarawa tribe. It is imperative to refrain from photographing, interacting, or offering anything to the Jarawa people, as such actions are strictly prohibited and punishable by law.
