Samudrika Naval Marine Museum

Samudrika Naval Marine Museum Trip

Prepare yourself for a unique marine adventure at the Samudrika Museum in Delanipur, Port Blair, Andaman Island. Far from being dull, this museum promises to captivate visitors with its vibrant displays of marine life. Maintained meticulously by the Indian Navy, the museum offers an immersive experience divided into five distinct rooms, each showcasing different facets of the Andaman Islands' marine ecosystem.

Before delving into the themed rooms, guests are greeted by the awe-inspiring sight of a massive blue whale skeleton, a generous gift from the Nicobar Islands. This majestic exhibit sets the tone for the marine wonders that lie within.

Adjacent to the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex, the Fisheries Aquarium beckons with its rebuilt premises post-tsunami devastation. Originally conceived as a museum, it was revamped into an aquarium in 1997, now boasting an impressive collection of over 350 marine species.

Stepping inside, visitors are transported to a bygone era reminiscent of a biology lab, with preserved marine specimens encased in glass jars. The aquarium showcases a diverse array of shells, corals, and live creatures, including imposing table corals, crabs, sharks, and starfish.

Among the highlights are the striking skeleton of a sperm whale, renowned as the largest toothed whale, and life-sized exhibits of dolphins and sawfish, offering fascinating insights into marine biodiversity.

While the museum mirrors some of the exhibits found at the Samudrika Naval Marine Museum, it's worth a visit if time permits. However, photography is prohibited within the aquarium, so remember to leave your cameras behind to fully immerse yourself in the marine wonders on display.
